Archbishop Myers Blesses Kearny Senior Residence

NEWARK, N.J. — Most Reverend John J. Myers, Archbishop of Newark, blessed Kearny Senior Residence on Wednesday, October 19, 2005. Built by Domus Corporation, an affiliate of Catholic Health and Human Services Corporation (CHHS), Kearny Senior Residence is a new 49-unit, affordable senior housing facility located at 681-697 Schuyler Avenue in Kearny.

Joining Archbishop Myers for the 3:30 p.m. ceremony were featured speakers Walter E. Kreher, director of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Newark Multifamily Program Center; Alberto Santos, mayor of Kearny; Dr. Phillip Frese, president of Domus Corporation; and Henry J. Amoroso, president and CEO of CHHS.

Domus Corporation, a not-for-profit developer and manager of affordable housing projects throughout the Archdiocese, used $6,547,900 in grants from HUD and from Hudson County to complete the project.

“We are very pleased that the Archbishop will be joining us for this special celebration,” said Amoroso. “Meeting the needs of area seniors remains a vital goal for Domus Corporation and CHHS. The new facility’s residents, in addition to benefiting from a strong sense of community, will be able to access an array of programs and services offered by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark, another key CHHS affiliate.”
